JEWELLERY CARE
Caring For Your Cosendai
Every creation from Cosendai is handcrafted with rare and delicate materials, including Whitby jet — a fossilised wood central to the ongoing Metamorphosis collection. The natural fragility of these materials calls for care and presence.
A Transcendental Ritual
To wear a Cosendai jewel is to embrace a ritual of awareness. Adorn yourself slowly, as an invocation; let it accompany you as an ephemeral reminder of beauty and intention; remove it with care, as one might close a sacred book. This rhythm of putting on, wearing, and taking off is an experience as precious as the jewel itself.
Everyday Care
Storage: Keep each jewel in its own pouch or box, away from sunlight and moisture, to protect it from scratches and tarnish.
Water & Humidity: Avoid contact with water — especially when swimming, showering, or washing hands. Wood and Whitby jet can absorb moisture, which may cause warping, staining, or lasting damage.
Chemicals & Cosmetics: Keep your piece away from perfumes, creams, sunscreens, and cleaning products, as these can dull or damage its surface. If you use medical creams regularly, let us know so we may guide you in care.
When Dressing: Always put your jewellery on last, after perfumes, lotions, or hair products have been applied and fully absorbed.
Whitby Jet & Wood: These natural materials are sensitive to pressure and chemicals. Handle gently, protect from knocks, and never spray perfume directly on them.
Cleaning & Maintenance
Use a soft, lint‑free cloth to polish and restore brilliance.
If needed, clean lightly with lukewarm water and mild soap, using a very soft brush. Do not immerse Whitby jet or wood for long periods.
Avoid chemical cleaners unless specifically designed for jewellery.
For deeper care, return your piece to us. Ultrasonic cleaning may be arranged but should never exceed 40°C.
We recommend an annual care check, during which we can review and, if necessary, refresh the wood treatment and ensure your jewel’s condition endures.
Chain Care
Some Cosendai designs feature delicate chains that require mindful handling:
Store chains flat and separately to avoid kinks or stretching.
Never bend, twist, or apply pressure to them, as this can cause irreparable damage.
Expect a natural relaxation of the chain with time — this is part of its character.
A Final Note
A Cosendai endures as an heirloom of beauty and spirit, not just through the rarity of its materials, but through the intention with which it is worn and cared for.
